Leader Tasks Council On Wasted
The District Head, Gapere
Community, Kuje Area Council, FCT, Mr Yohana Musa, has called on the council authorities to extend its waste evacuation exercise to rural communities.
In an interview with newsmen in Abuja, Musa said the rural communities were neglected in the council’s waste evacuation programme.
The traditional ruler said the evacuation of waste mainly at Kuje town was not being carried out in a democratic fashion.
He said: “Waste evacuation is being carried out only in the town while the rural communities are neglected.
“It is not only the people in Kuje main town that voted the administration into power, majority of votes also came from the rural areas’’.
However, Musa urged residents of the communities to keep their environment clean on regular basis for healthy living.
The district head assured that he would use his position to sensitise the community on the need for proper waste disposal and the dangers of a dirty environment.
“The growing heaps of refuse in some communities in Kuje are due to improper disposal and negligence by some residents.
“The council needs to evacuate waste in the rural communities, so that we can have a clean and healthy environment,’’ he urged.
Reacting to the appeal, the Council’s Head, Environmental Health, Mr Abdulrazak Abdulkareem, said majority of the rural communities were not motorable enough to allow the evacuation truck gain access.
Abdulkareem explained that the non-accessible communities had been informed to always bring their waste to the road sides for evacuation.
He added that measures had been put in place to employ scavengers to collect waste from difficult terrains.
