Rivers To Host NYCN Delegates Congress
The Rivers State Chapter of
the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has expressed its readiness to host the triennial delegate congress of the council in Port Harcourt.
The delegate congress is scheduled for July this year.
This was part of the outcome of the just concluded extraordinary congress of the youth council in Benin City Edo State.
The extraordinary congress was hosted by the Board of Trustees of the council.
The congress also resolved to review the constitution of the council as well as revalidate the structure of all voluntary youth organisations in the country.
In his address at the congress in Benin, Edo State the chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of the council, Chief Mokolo Omo Azubibene, said that the congress was called to review developments in the council since the aborted national congress.
He said that the Board of Trustees was out to restore the youth body to its pride of place in the socio-political and economic development of the country.
He described the Board of Trustees as an interventionist organ to resolve any problem in the youth body.
Also speaking, the secretary of the Board, Hon. Elizabeth Ativie, said that the extraordinary congress was convened to critically look into problems that had bedeviled the council with a view to charting the way forward. Hon Ativie, who is serving her third term in the Edo State House of Assembly stressed the need fo a new constitution that would meet the yearnings and aspirations of the youth in the country.
Also speaking, the Edo State chairman of the national youth council of Nigeria, Comrade Innocent Ajayi thanked delegates for their positive response to the congress.
The Rivers State delegates to the forum were led by Ambassador Sukobo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, who also nominated Bethel Oko Jaja to serve as acting vice chairman, South-South zone.
