‘Monopoly Raises Cost Of Oil Production In Nigeria’

Nigerdock Plc, a
subsidiary of Jagal Group, has said that the logistics operations in the Nigerian oil and gas industry has become the most expensive in the world as a result of a dominant monopoly in the subsector.
The management of the company disclosed that this added extra cost has translated to over $1.5 billion per annum in the country.
The company which claimed it has invested an additional $500 million in its operations to further enhance local content development in the oil and gas industry asked the Federal Government to stop the monopoly and make the Nigeria Oil and Gas Logistics and Supply Service subsector more competitive.
The Group Executive Chairman of Nigerdock, Anwar Jarmakani made this disclosure to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hamid Ali (ritd) who visited the Snake Island Integrated Free Zone in Lagos.
Jarmakani alleged that such monopoly has been sabotaging the economy, conspiring and working against potential competitors, adding that the oil and gas industry and the nation have been forced into capitulation. In his words:
“The Nigeria oil and gas supply and logistics services are the most expensive in the world because of its entrenched monopoly. Investments have on the account of this situation been driven away from the country.”
He further revealed that attempts have been made in time past to compromise the Nigerian Customs Service and admitted that he appreciate the fact the present administration is aggressively doing away with such impunity.
According to him, the Nigeria Customs Service is one of critical sectors where the change agenda of President Buhari has been evident. “Snake Island Integrated Free Zone and Nigerdock are open for competitive business and we are determined to bring down your operational costs by at least 30 per cent”, he said.
The Nigerdock Chief Executive said the organisation is a fundamental fabric of the Nigerian economy being one of the three revenue earners to the country. He revealed that Snake Island Integrated Free Zone prides itself on its working relationship with the Nigeria Customs Service and all other relevant government agencies.
