The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital(UPTH) in Rivers State, has unveiled a disease analysis centre and an Isolation ward.
The development follows the recent outbreak of Lassa Fever in the state.
Speaking to newsmen at the weekend, Assistant Director of Nursing Services at UPTH Mrs Orianwo Weli, said the hospital does not want to leave anything to chance, and was ready to combat any deadly disease within the state.
She stated that the Isolation centre will serve as a place for monitoring those suspected with cases of both Lassa and Ebola, and will help in emergency and treatment of contagious infections in the state.
According to her, “from now on, most of the cases will not be taken out of the state to be tested or treated, and we have state of the art facilities here.”
Consequently, the Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Prof. Aaron Ojule, said the hospital was deploying all its resources towards equipping the facility and training the personnel to ensure quality health care delivery within the state.
Speaking at the matriculation of 116 students into the School of Health and Information Management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital,
He explained that the establishment of the School of Health Information management in 2014 is to develop requisite manpower to enhance quality service delivery.
Ojule, therefore, urged the matriculants to reciprocate by maintaining high ethical standards both in character and in learning.
The CMD commended President Muhammadu Buhari and Health Minister, Prof Isaac Adewale for support towards actualizing the vision of making the facility one of the best in the country.
