Rotary Club Harps On Medical Check Up
The President of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Garden City, Rotarian Tonye Margaret Nria-Dappa has urged the people to always conduct medical checkups, that would enable them know their health status.
Nria-Dappa who made the call during the 2015 Rotary Health Days at the Churchill Primary Health Centre Borikiri in Port Harcourt, noted that most of the people are ignorant of their health status.
The President said that the aim of the free medical care by Rotary Club is to help people to be conscious of their health status.
According to her, the free medical care is basically for family medication, not specialized treatment, adding that, testing, checkups were carried out.
The aim of the Club is to bring people out to know their health status without paying any thing.
It is important for everyone to go for medical checksup always, in order to avoid total breakdown of one’s body system”, she said.
‘It is a common knowledge that most people don’t go for medical check up unless they are pushed or become ill. The Rotary Club has decided to bring it at their door steps at no cost”, she added.
Also speaking, the President Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Diobu town, Rotarian Abiye Tamuno-Opubo, said people hardly carry out proper medical checkup due to poverty, ignorance or lack of education, adding that most persons prefer to purchase drugs from pharmacies without prescription from a medical doctor.
According to him, about 80 per cent of the people that participated had malaria because of the environment they find themselves and the middle age had high blood pressure in which most of them are not aware of.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Dorathy Ebonine lauded the exercise carried out by the Club. She also prayed that God should continue to bless them in all their endeavours.
The Club provided malaria drugs, treated mosquito nets, sanitary pads, ORS, eye glases and water treatment.
