Rivers Acting CJ Swears-In New Notary Public Officers
In the determined efforts to
restore public confidence in judiciary system of Rivers State, the state Acting Chief Judge, Justice Daisy W. Okocha has inaugurated 18 notary public officers in the state.
Inaugurating 17 out of the 18 newly appointed notary officers in the state at a brief ceremony held at the judiciary complex, Thursday in Port Harcourt, Justice Okocha charged them to be faithful in their responsibilities to which they have been called to serve.
Rivers acting CJ also charged them to use intelligence and judgment to perform their duties as required by law advising them to remember that others are relying on “their honesty and integrity”.
While urging them to be attentive, scrupulous and diligent not to deny service to a needy without just cause. Justice Okocha spoke of the need for them not to perform their duties with unwholesome interest that would jeopardize the essence of their appointments.
Do not act contrary to your oath of office as a notary. Do not commit any offence contrary to our laws,” she warned.
Justice Okocha noted, however, that the sacredness of the function of notary public officer are provided in Notaries Public Act “Cap NUCI, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004,” adding that section 6 of the Act stipulates that “every notary shall be deemed to be an officer of the Supreme Court”.
The acting Chief Judge while congratulating them on their appointment further prayed the Almighty God to grant them wisdom and enablement to carry out their responsibilities and exalt the reputation of the office of notary public.
