BVN: Banker Woos Customers On CBN Extension
The Branch Services Man
ager, First Bank Nigeria Limited, Ahoada, Mr. Chukwunonso Okolie, has called on the bank customers to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) extension for the Bank Verification Number (BVN) exercise.
Okolie, who spoke to our correspondent, Friday, in his office blamed the large crowd witnessed across the country’s banks on nonchalant attitude of Nigerians to issues.
“This Nigerian factor is not doing the country any good in terms of compliance to important policies of government at any given time”, he said.
He said it was worrisome that since November last year that the exercise began, a lot of people did not show interest.
He explained that despite the fact that the Ahoada branch of the bank cater for almost eight local government areas, it was never under pressure.
He described Ahoada as a semi urban area and expressed concern on how the exercise could cover those in the hospitals, the very elderly and even the illiterates who may not be aware of the exercise.
On the claim by some customers that bank staff initially complained of system failure, Okolie said such claims were not verifiable.
According to him, at the time, only a few people turned up even as he adverted minimal system failure.
He said those who reported earlier were all attended to, adding that the bank’s systems have been working optimally.
On the human capacity of the bank to deal with more than seven local government areas it services, he said the basic thing was on the nature of transaction.
Okolie said the bank has never been under pressure apart from the BVN exercise which witnessed tremendous crowds.
It could be recalled that the CBN last week extended the BVN registration exercise to October 31st, 2015.
