RSG To Rehabilitate Survived ‘Ogogoro’ Victims
Rivers State Governor,
Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has promised to rehabilitate victims that survived the consumption of the illicit local gin ‘Ogogoro.’
He stated this during a condolence visit to the bereaved families and survived victims in Obio/Akpor and Gokana Local Government respectively
Represented by His Deputy, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, the Governor assured the bereaved families and the survived ones of government assistance. “We condole with you families and pray that this ugly incident will not befall us again in Rivers State, she added.
Governor Wike charged community leaders to sensitize their people on the danger of consumption of local gin on human body and the need to desist from its sale and consumption, while urging residents of the state to cooperate with the federal and state government on their efforts in trying to stem further spread of the poisonous gin.
The medical doctor in-charge of Obio/Akpor health centres, Dr. Tonye Lawson Jack said a total number of 13 persons were affected in Woji Town, with 12 death recorded.
