Senator Oboro Decamps To APC
Fourth Republic Senator,
representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Senator Felix Oboro under the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has dumped the ruling political party for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing journalists at the NUJ conference hall, Yenagoa, Senator Oboro said he jettisoned his former party because they lacked cohesion and internal democracy, saying that as a founding father of PDP in the state, he would not wait the boat to capsize before jumping out.
Oboro, who was received by State Chairman of APC party executves, senatorial candidates of the party in the forth-coming polls and party loyalists said that President Jonathan owed the state an apology for neglecting his home state during six years in office.
“In 1998, we laid the foundations for PDP and nurtured the party to become the dominant party that it has become in the state, but the outcome of the recent PDP congress has destroyed the cohesion in the party.
“The people of Bayelsa have been yearning for development, and pledged that the APC presidential candidate would reverse the trend,” Oboro said.
Oboro noted that the state fared better under the northern presidents and recalled that the state was created by Gen Sanni Abach while the amnesty programme currently enjoyed by the youths of the state was the handiwork of Late President Musa Yar’Adua.
He regretted that the Ijaw nation had not benefitted from the Jonathan Presidency and declared that those canvassing support for him based their support on mere sentiments.
Speaking at the occasion Chief Timipre Sylva, a former governor of the state and a senatorial candidate of APC in the coming polls noted that Oboro who was a pillar in PDP would be an asset to APC.
He noted that insecurity, widespread poverty and epileptic power supply would be addressed by the APC government come May 29.
He said that the leadership of APC would soon receive more credible politicians who have indicated interest in joining the party.
Welcoming Oboro to the party Bayelsa Chairman of APC Chief Timipa Orunimighe noted that the former PDP chieftain was an asset to his former party and urged him to join forces to enhance the fortunes of the APC at the polls.
