Lawmaker Alleges Plot To Arrest APC Members
The lawmaker
representing Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Sokonte H. Davies, has condemned an alleged plan by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the security agencies, including the Department of State Security Service (DSS) to arrest and detain members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the general elections in Rivers State.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, Hon. Davies, disclosed that the PDP and its collaborators, the security agencies, had perfected plans to arrest and detain some of its supporters on trumped-up charges and would only release them after the elections.
According to Hon. Davies, the pattern of arrest and detention of members of the APC currently going on in the state underscores the plan by the PDP.
He described the alleged plot as unhealthy to the democratic process and portends great danger to the forthcoming elections as well as cast doubt on the genuineness of conducting a free and fair election by the government. He said that this fear was heightened by the PDP and Federal Government’s use of the military to forcefully enter a state property without permission from the owners to use it for political activities.
The lawmaker, who said that some faithful of the party were being witch-hunted, also alleged that the security agencies were clearly partisan in the discharge of their duties.
Hon. Davies, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) reiterated that the party would remain focused and committed to violence free elections before, during and after the elections.
