UNESCO To Train 300 Non-Formal Education Facilitators In Rivers
In line with its objective
of Education for All, (EFA) project, the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) is to commence the training of 300 Non formal Education facilitators in Rivers State.
A statement from the office of the Regional Director and Representative UNESCO Regional office, Abuja, Prof Hassana Alidou, indicates that the special interventionist training programme will be carried out in conjunction with Procter and Gamble, (P&G) and the Rivers State Government.
According to the statement, “the four days intensive programme will kick off with the formal inauguration of the Project Implementation Task Team in Rivers State on Tuesday January 27 while the training and technical session will start from Wednesday 28, to Friday 30th January 2015, at the Government Girls Secondary School Rumueme, Port Harcourt.
The statement also disclosed that the three years Pilot Project which is executed under the theme, “Empowerment of Girls and women in literacy and skills Development through the use of ICTs in Nigeria” is targeted at creating access for 60,000 girls and women in Rivers State and the federal capital Territory which the flagship of the project, to enable them acquire basic literacy and life skills by supporting them to learn to read and write.
The event will be chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Education, Barr. Minabelem Micheal West, while, the Hon. Commissioner for education in Rivers State, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nimi, who is also the Chairman of the Rivers State Implementation task team would be the special guest of honour.
