2015: Political Actors And Side Attractions
The long awaited 2015
is here. Very much available and fired at us point blank with final dressing of the stage for the critical bout of political decision that is expected to shape the future of our democratic transition.
2015 means a lot to Nigerians, especially the political class, and their body language and posture so far indicate that they are poised for real battle in the forthcoming general elections. In contending with the rather dicey and chancy game, the political actors are bound to explore their multifarious tentacles of partisan manipulations in the typical sense of evolution that has so far defined the basis of our politics.
Right at the centre stage of our political transition are various categories of participants and actors. There are those who are in the race on a note of trial and mere test of fate. There are those in the race to play the spoilers role. There are those in the race to secure their perpetuity in politics, and this category of participants will stop at nothing to clear the briers on the highway to achieving their political objective. They have tested the juice of politics and perhaps no alternative means of livelihood can sustain their class and standard in social and economic attainment. Remember the fear of being out of power is the beginning of wisdom. There are those in the race to gain cheap attention for bargaining into political limelight.
There are also those in the race on party concessions based on caucus agreement and filial bond that defies popular mandate.
As earlier stated these varying categories of power seekers have deployed their inate skills and devices which are exhibited in most banal and invidious forms of strategic deception.
Those who are engrossed in diabolical whims and caprices as platforms of altering their political dreams have renewed their fetish temples and sanctums ahead of the final showdown. Their romance with the weired and bizarre is uncommon and they have implicit confidence in the potency of their temples. They are known as voodoo politicians and they revel in the exhibition of their uncommon prowess in voodoo practice.
Beyond the consultation and reactivation of their shrines and sanctuaries, there have also been recourse to seeking divine approval and endorsement for their political mandates. The measure have become so thriving that most clerics have become so gullible and caught up in the act that they don’t know the limit of divine revelation and their personal permutation to satisfy the psychopathic obsession of desperate power seekers. Clerics have soiled the cassocks and religious garments to satisfy the yearnings of a political class whose quest for power is sustained in a crude and adaptative sense of manipulation of the polity in a self serving gesture with a prevailing order of economic exploitation and indent mockery of the populace.
The system has become so compelling that more and more people have dropped the cloak of mondesty to join the bandwagon as a means of registering into the club of “achievers” by pandering to indecency, serving as willing stooges and allies and worshiping at the alters of their political Godfathers and benefactors. Such subservient political culture has remained the bane of our national politics, as the most veritable criteria for participation in politics today is apparent docility, compromise and corruption, rather than service and ideology which are the authentic hall mark of civilised politics.
Apart from the voodoo politicians, there are also the yahoo politicians who engage in e-deception and social media hyping to score cheap political goals. The increasing influence of the social media on the global systems of political revolution has made it an invitable platform of political exploitation. Remember that most politicians seeking elective positions declared online, making larger than life promises, rather than the conventional appeal to get the masses consent through personal interactions and convictions.
There is no doubt that both voodoo and yahoo politicians have a common objective of sustaining aristocratic privileges, while keeping the masses at bay as spectators and recipients of subtle but carefully conceived deceit doled out in form of peripheral public gesture.
The progressive degradation of our political systems has remained a concern, as it has offered an unfettered attraction to the younger generation who have accepted it as a norm and standard of political development, the prospect of which is perpetual political serritude and drift in ideological substance and values.
Imagine a society doomed to the perpetual strangle grip of goons and scoundrels. A system where statesmen have become senfs, and diffident and depraved minds become the wielders of power; a chronic disability that requires revolutionary attention. It is most likely that our politicians had not learnt their lessons over the years and may still resort to crude measures, especially in the 2015 general elections to press home their advantages.
Their macrebre dance steps have however become so distasteful and offensive to the Nigerian masses, and onlya genuine change of attitude and civilised approach to politics can earn them the trust of the Nigerian masses. The ball is therefore in the court of the Nigerian masses, to decide their future by looking beyond the deceit of politicians and vote out midiocres or get caught in the dragnet of political turpitude that has dwindled our prospect of growth as a nation.

Balancing Religious Freedom and Community Rights

Quote:”Communities have rights to peace, safety, and quality of life. Noise pollution, crowds, or other impacts from religious activities can affect these rights. Balancing these interests requires consideration and dialogue”.
