Ember Months: FRSC Adopts Strategy To Reduce Road Crashes
The Corp Marshal of the
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, said the commission had concluded plans for a robust strategy to reduce road crashes this yuletide period.
Boboye said this on Monday in Abuja at a retreat for senior officers of the corps aimed at reducing road crashes during the 2014 end of year and yuletide season.
“ Our aim with this robust strategy is to focus on how to make the roads safer for all road users and ensure reduction in road crashes as we begin our end-of-year patrol operations,’’ he said.
According to him, the strategy includes deployment of sophisticated patrol vehicles along strategic road corridors and use of speed detection devices such as radar guns to
monitor motorists’ speed on the highways.
He advised motorists to avoid drunk driving, speeding and over-loading as they account for most of the fatal accidents on the highways during the yuletide period.
Boboye also warned against putting vehicles that are not road-worthy on the road.
He said FRSC patrol team would not hesitate to arrest and sanction any motorist violating traffic rules.
According to him, FRSC is working hard to ensure safety and better flow of traffic so that motorists will not have to pass the night on the highways when travelling for the yuletide.
He said the commission had developed a new slogan – “Drive to Safe Lives’’ – as part of efforts to reduce road crashes, and called on the media and other stakeholders to join the campaign for safer roads.
On deadline for new driver’s licence and number plates, he said the commission had not set any timeline, but advised motorists to get the new licence or plate numbers immediately the current one expires.
