Penultimate Friday, Jumaat service was held at the 2nd Brigade Mosque, where the governor was represented by Chairman of Degama Local Government Area, Hon, Ibigoni Pokima.
Last Sunday, the governor attended the church service at St Cyprains Anglican Church, Port Harcourt. “Heads of security outfits-Army, Airforce, Navy and Civil Defence with other Christian clerics were also in attendance.
In his speech after the sermon and prayers, Governor Chibuike Amaechi lamented the country’s dwindling fortunes economically and politically, saying “things are becoming more difficult than in Shagari and Abacha regimeS put together.”
The governor noted that only few persons have moved from poverty to wealth, urging Nigerians to pray for the country. He used the church service to explain why the state government was delaying in paying civil servants’ salaries, blaming the federal government for the development.
On Monday, the governor was represented by his deputy, Engr Tele Ikuru during the unveilment of five Hilux vans donated by telecom giant, MTN. Governor Amaechi commended MTN for the gesture describing it as demonstration of corporate social responsibility.
In the words of Amaechi, “it’s our business to jointly ensure that business is conducive. As a responsible entity, its your responsibility to enhance what government is doing.”
The governor disclosed that over the years, the state government has donated over 300 security patrol vans to the various security agencies maintaining that securing lives and property was the responsibility of government.
Governor Amaechi on Wednesday made a live broadcast to the state as part of the 54th Independence anniversary. He stated that since the inception of his administration, he has tackled insecurity in order to restore the economy of the state.
With security restored, Governor Amaechi stated that his administration has driven the economy up and created over 43, 210 jobs in agriculture and education sectors. He noted that success recorded in the educational sector has earned the state the opportunity to host the World Book Capital 2014.
In conclusion, the Rivers State governor said by the time his administration comes to an end next year, he would have achieved a lot and left a better legacy. He urged politicians to play according to the rules as the elections draw closer paying God to sustain and uplift Nigeria.
After the broadcast, the governor took time to appear live on air at Nigeria Info Fm, Col FM, Radio Port Harcourt, and Family love FM, all in Port Harcourt on governorship.
Later on Thursday, he participated at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Special get –together lunch held at Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt, while on Friday, he visited Degema local government area, to unveil 18,000 capacity stadium built by the local government council. At the commissioning, the governor commended the Chairman , Hon Ipokiwa Igoni, while urging the Kalabari people to vote out PDP in order to regain their ceded oil wells.
The governor also later issued an Eid El Kabir message. He sued for peace and stability of the nation, while enjoining Muslims to hope and work for the best as they celebrate.

Makarfi Resigns As PDP BoT Secretary
Senator Makarfi’s resignation comes on the heels of the national convention that saw the emergence of the new Chairman of PDP, Dr Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN).
In his letter of resignation, which was addressed to the PDP BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and made available to journalists in Kaduna on Monday evening, the former governor said, “Chairman and Members of the Board of Trustees may recall that about two months ago I had resigned as Secretary of the Board and posted same on the Board’s WhatsApp platform.
“Mr Chairman, you may also recall that you personally urged me to stay on until after a convention that produced a Chairman.”
He added that the principal reason he initially tendered his resignation then “and now, was and is still my belief that the National Chairman of the Party and Secretary of the Board of Trustees should not come from the same geopolitical zone.
“Now that a chairman has emerged from the North West, where I come from, it’s necessary to give him full space to do the needful. Accordingly, I hereby formally resign as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party with effect from today, November 17th, 2025.”
While commending the BoT Chairman for his support during his tenure as Secretary of the Board, he stressed, “I truly appreciate the very respectful relationship between us during my period as Secretary,” adding that, “I also appreciate all Board members for their support and the good relationship that prevailed during my period as Secretary.”
Meanwhile, Dr Turaki on Monday pledged to ensure that power returns to the Nigerian people, urging the judiciary to uphold the tenets of democracy.
Dr Turaki, while giving his acceptance speech after the swearing-in of new officers at the end of the Elective Convention of the PDP in Ibadan, assured that there will be “no more impunity, no more suppression of the will of Nigerians”.
The chairman appealed to the judiciary to uphold the principles of stare decision, abiding by the decisions of the Supreme Court, and not to “willingly or unwillingly put yourselves in a situation where, rightly or wrongly, it may be assumed, correctly or incorrectly, that you are part and parcel of the process to truncate Nigerian democracy.”
According to him, the new leadership of the party would be open to listening to the yearnings of members, with a view to aligning with their will, declaring that “No more monkey dey work, baboon dey chop,” adding that “if baboon wants to chop, baboon must be seated to work.”
He noted that the PDP has maintained its original name, motto and logo, unlike the other parties that started with it, making it a recognised brand anywhere in Nigeria.
