RSG To Rebuild Mile One Market Through PPP
The Commissioner for
Works in Rivers State, Hon Victor Giadom has said that the second phase of Mile One Rumuji market which was gutted by fire early this year would be rebuilt through public private partnership (PPP).
The commissioner disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists in his office in Port Harcourt recently.
Giadon said construction work would begin as soon as the contractual documentation was completed between the government and the private partners.
According to him, the reasons for the PPP was that government alone cannot take full responsibility of rebuilding the market.
The Works Commissioner noted that the present administration under Governor Chubuike Rotimi Amaechi had built two markets, which include phase A of mile one market and that of New Layout Town market, adding that they have also completed various quality road projects, which is a proof that the government is determined to deliver quality infrastructure for the people of the state.
“The quality infrastructure in the state are meant to improve economic activities and living standard of the people”, he stressed, reiterating the commitment of the state government in ensuring that the people of the state get the dividends of democracy.
“The commitment of the Rivers State Government in providing basic infrastructure for the benefit of the people of the state is not in doubt; we are doing everything possible to ensure that the people get the dividends of democracy” Hon Giadom posited.
He also disclosed that work on Rumuaholu road has commenced, and that Rumuokumini– Rumuepirikom road, the Garrison – Slaughter-Woji – Elelenwo – Akpajo road and Elieparanwo roads are receiving speedy attention by the state government .
Meanwhile, the abandoned Creek Road project in Port Hacourt Township had been a great concern to the inhabitants, motorists and business operators as the road had become a death trap with deep pot-holes and the uncovered drainage system, that is blocked with sands and debris.
