Police Confirm Release of Abducted Lawmaker
The Rivers State Police Command yesterday, confirmed that the abducted member of the state House of Assembly representing Etche Constituency 11, Hon. Golden Chioma has regained his freedom.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, confirmed this while briefing journalists at the State Police Command headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Muhammad said that the lawmaker was released by his abductors Wednesday, adding that he was not aware whether any ransom was paid before the lawmaker was freed.
“What I can tell you is that the lawmaker has been released yesterday. I am not aware if any ransom was paid. We are working seriously be bring the perpetrators to book, as we will soon call you people here to parade them”, he stated.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command yesterday, paraded 11 armed robbery suspects for various criminal activities committed across the state in July.
Those paraded by the Police at State Command headquarters in Port Harcourt, included, Tope Ekundayo, Henry Onuoha, who were arrested for car snatching while Goodnews Elam, Alexander Chibuike, Chimerenu Amadi, Godswill Uwem and Chinedu Oguike, were arrested for armed robbery.
Others are Anderson Alex, Samuel Fineface, Emmanuel Owiko as well as Miss Mary Amadi, who were arrested for kidnapping.
Addressing journalists, the state Commissioner of Police, Tunde Ogunsakin represented by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ahmad Muhammad, disclosed that the arrest of the suspects was borne out of the commitment to intensify in crime fighting in the state.
Ogunsakin disclosed that the car theft syndicate, which specialize in stealing cars and changing their colours across the state were arrested following a tip off from concerned citizens, adding that three stolen vehicles were recovered from the suspects.
The State Police boss also disclosed that among the armed robbery suspects were those that have been terrorizing Aluu, Diobu and Trans-Amadi areas, adding that during the operations executed by the officers of SARS, locally made revolver pistol, three motor cycles, a marathon pistol, one assault rifle with 30 rounds 5.56mm ammunition, 1.200 magazines, one pump action gun with 22 live cartridges and an iron cutter were recovered from the gang.
According to him, the Police also arrested Miss Mary Amadi, who threatened to kidnap one Chukwuemeka Racheal of Wazobia FM, adding that other kidnap suspects arrested have confessed to have committed the crime as well as disclosing the identify of other fugitive members of the gang.
