ICT: Group Urges Govt To Stock Libraries
The President of Nigeria
Internet Group (NIG), Mr Bayo Banjo, has urged the Federal Government to equip its public libraries with modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities to enhance learning.
Banjo, who made the call in an interview with the newsmen in Lagos, Sunday said that many of the libraries still lacked modern ICT facilities for learning and research purposes.
He said that ICT played an important role in learning and research.
The ICT expert attributed the mass failure of students in examinations to poor reading habit and lack of modern reading facilities in public schools.
“The world is no longer what it used to be; almost everything is now online and students need such facilities in their school libraries.
“So, when they don’t get it they refuse to read because they feel it is boring to read manually.”
Banjo said that if the libraries were modernised, it would enable students and researchers to have access to more materials that would aid their learning and research.
He said that technology should be used to drive development in the country.
