Community Mourns As Perm Sec Buries Husband
The remains of late Pastor
Jerry Nbule Nmebe JP, Mene Eedee of Tai Kingdom and husband of the Permanent Secretary of Youth Development Rivers State, Mrs Clara Tam Nmebe, were laid to rest over the weekend.
The burial ceremony which took place at Sime town, Tai Local Government Area of the state attracted top State Government functionaries led by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon George Fiyi and other dignities including the Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee, Petroleum (Downstream), Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, who paid glowing tributes to the deceased.
Survived by six biological children, late Chief Jerry Nmebe, aged 69 was a devout Christian, politician of high repute and former Member of the Rivers State House of Assembly under Chief Melford Okilo administration in the second republic.
At the Funeral Service conducted by the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS), the officiating ministers led by the state Leader’s Representative of BCS, Pastor Boma Ambille, prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased, noting that Pastor Nmebe lived a worthy life and enjoined Christians to use the occasion of his funeral to re-examine their lives.
In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Geroge Fiyi, noted that the entire Ogoni ethnic nationality and by extension Rivers State has lost a rare gem, a bridge builder between the youths, traditional institution and political class in Tai LGA, whose contributions can never be easily erased with history.
Also Senator Magnus Abe, said late Chief Jerry Nmebe will be sorely missed not only by his immediate family members but the entire Seme Community, noting that he was a strong personality, great pillar of support, courage and strength to many whose contributions enhanced the growth of democracy in the State.
In his condolence letter the Commissioner of the Ministry, Sir Owene Wonodi expressed sympathy over the demise of his Permanent Secretary’s husband whose death he said came to them as a terrible shock.
