RSG To Complete 154 Roads By 2015
The Rivers State Government has said it would attain 95 per cent completion of 154 ongoing roads, bridges, reclamation and shore protection projects before June 1, 2015.
The Commissioner for Works, Mr Victor Giadom, stated this in a report titled “Financial Road Map to Completion of Ongoing Projects-March Towards 2015” in Port Harcourt, on Friday.
Giadom said the 154 projects, including carriage roads, were expected to cost the state government the sum of N120 billion.
He said that 146 of the 154 ongoing projects would reach 95 per cent completion before May 2015.
“If we include smaller roads; the state government has so far awarded 275 roads of which the non-carriage roads in most rural communities have been completed.
“Similarly, a total of 116 roads and bridges, reclamation and shore protection projects were completed between March and June, 2013.
“The completed roads are equipped with street lights, pedestrian walk-ways and modern drainages to contain the present influx of people and growing commercial activities in the state,” he said.
Giadom said the state government had completed the Federal Government-owned Ogoni-Opobo Unity Road project at the cost of N28 billion.
He said the projects were in line with the government’s commitment to reduce traffic situation in the state.
