NSCDC Seals Off 10 Illegal Guard Firms In A’Ibom
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) said it has sealed off 10 illegal private guard companies in Akwa Ibom in 2013.
The State Commandant of the corps, Mr Pedro Ideba, said this in an interview with newsmen in Uyo, yesterday.
Ideba said that the command had earlier given the private guard companies time to regularise their operations but they refused.
“The companies were given enough time to regularise their papers but they refused, some only came to collect the forms but never filled them,” he said.
He said that the private guard companies were sealed off because the time of grace given to them had elapsed.
According to him, the Ministry of Interior granted licenses to only five private guard companies that met the requirements to operate in Akwa Ibom.
The state commandant also said that the command had reduced oil theft in Akwa Ibom to the barest minimum.
Ideba, however, told reporters that the officers and men of the corps, deployed to crime-prone areas in the state, would continue to be there.
He said that the command had discovered a new method used by the oil thieves to sabotage the economy and would counter them.
He further said that the corps had arrested three suspects, in connection with oil theft in the state.
