Firstnation Airways Extends Route Network To PH
A Nigerian Independent Firstnation Airways has announced that it has added service between Lagos and Port Harcourt since December 22, 2013, to help ease air travel congestion and provide additional seat capacity as option to the flying public.
The airline said it would be operating two daily flights departing Lagos, Murtala Muhammed A2 terminal at 09.30 hours and 14.45 hours and from Port Harcourt at 11.50 hours and 1650 hours and thereafter operate on the route daily and will offer service on both Christmas and New Year day.
The airline in a statement said it is also offering season promotion of low fares subject to availability on the route. Expansion into Port Harcourt is following the airline acclaimed and well received service between Lagos and Abuja.
Firstnation has within a relatively short time cultivated strong passengers following mainly multinational, corporation organisations as well as passengers who value safety and good customer service.
The airline in a statement said it operates modern Airbus A319, young aircraft fleet when compared with peers within Africa.
It described the Airbus A319 as the very first set of A319 to come on Nigeria register.
The aircrafts are installed with AFIRS 220 iridium satellite global communication equipment one of the very few aircraft with this State of the Art Satellite Navigation (SATNAV) equipment operating in West Africa.
The SATNAV (Satellite Navigation) provide crew reliable voice and simultaneously connect to aircraft systems analysisng performance in-flight.
According to the statement, “this allows the airline to track aircraft system performance in-flight from ground. This is one of the most advanced SATNAV systems which support the airline flight operations quality assurance oversight. Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is actively encouraging airlines to upgrade their fleet with this equipment”.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
