Kattey Ordains New Canons, Priests, Lay Readers
The Dean, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Archbishop, Province of Niger Delta and Bishop, Diocese of Niger Delta North, the Most Revered Ignatius C.O. Kattey has installed five canons, ordained four priests and one deacon.
During the installation and ordination service held at the Cathedral Church of St Paul, Diobu, Port Harcourt last Sunday 40 persons were also licensed as lay readers.
Those installed canons were Sullivan Samuel Brown Odike, Rev. Manasseh Oguru, Rev. Manrice Enwereji, Rev (Prof) Simeon C. Achinewhu and Rev Hoshua Imiebara Frank Daminabo.
The ordained priests were Rev Kingsley Wosinegbu, Rev Asionyenlo Eleazer Chijoke, Rev Andy Richard Mbaike and Gideon Emmanuel Otuawaji, while Rev Echezona Chukwuka Mbadugha was ordained deacon.
In his sermon the Bishop, Diocese of Wusasa, Rt Reverend (Dr) A. B. Lamido reiterated the need for visionary leaders in both the church and secular world. Rt Revd Lamido who took his text from John 21: 15-17 said “the church needs today people who think ahead. See your installation and ordination as an opportunity to serve” adding that “all moral failures point to the collapse of love”.
He congratulated those installed, ordained and licensed and urged them to be more committed. “God is calling you at this time to contribute to the growth of the church” he said.
Rt Rev’ Lamido who expressed gratitude to the dean, church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion Most Rev’d Kattey for the privilege to preach at the installation and ordination service noted with delight the tremendous spiritual and structural growth in the diocese.
The Dean, church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion and Archbishop Province of Niger Delta and Bishop Diocese of the Niger Delta North Most Rev’d I. C. O. Kattey later announced the posting of four priests of the diocese to foreign missions in Madagascar, Ivory Coast and Gabon.
Those to be posted are Rev Canon Ugochukwu Okpala, (Ivory Coast), Rev Romuald Foko, (Gabon), Rev Jason Akunne, Rev Isaac Nyema and Rev Bright Iwezor, (Madagascar), Expressing his joy to newsmen one of the newly installed canons, Rev (canon) Manasseh Oguru described has installation as a call to share his experience and life message to bring people to the family of God.
