Insecurity: Oshiomhole Adopts GIS Measures
The Edo State governor,
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole says his government has adopted the Geographical Information System (GIS) as a measure to check insecurity.
Oshiomhole stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa.
He explained that the GIS would help to capture houses in every part of the state capital, adding that the project, which had commenced, would be completed in a few months.
The governor said there was need for the residents to know those living around them in order to fight crime effectively.
He also said that a new ministry had been created to give the state capital proper planning and layout.
The governor said his administration would continue to build schools and that government had concluded the review of technical education in the state.
He said the administration would concentrate on technical education as there was shortage of competent and skilled manpower to carry out technical jobs.
Oshiomhole said government was collaborating with the Canadian Government in equipping Benin Technical College, emphasising the need to shift emphasis to technical education to reduce unemployment.
He assured the Benin monarch that his administration would do its best to take the state to an enviable height despite the dwindling revenue to the state from the Federation Account.
The governor disclosed that there was 25 per cent shortfall in revenue from the Federal Allocation to the state.
Oshiomhole said his administration had completed the Airport Road, six other adjourning roads and other projects in Benin in the last one year.
He also said that the administration had completed work on five junctions in Benin and reclaimed some moats in the state capital.
The governor, however, said that work at Mission and Forestry Roads in the state capital would soon be completed.
