Chamber Advises FG On Niger Bridge Construction
The Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ONICCIMA), has appealed to the Federal Government to hasten the construction of the second Niger Bridge.
President of ONICCIMA, Dr Tim Anosike, told newsmen in Onitsha, Anambra State, that the second Niger Bridge would be economic benefit to the people of the South-East.
Anosike said that apart from the media reports about its feasibility, technical studies and award of contract to Julius Berger, work had not started on the bridge.
According to him, the existing narrow bridge across the Niger is causing severe gridlock.
“The government needs to expedite action on the bridge because the bridge will connect the entire country from North and South to the West.
“Besides, the existing bridge is weak and there is fear and apprehension that it will collapse soon,’’ he said.
