Group Urges Elevation Of Ikwerre Chieftaincy Stools
The Ikwerre Traditional
Rulers Committee (ITRPC) has called on Governor Chibuike Amaechi to recognise more chieftaincy stools in Ikwerreland just as he has done for the Etche people recently.
The coordinator of the group, Dr Paul Wowhor said this last Monday while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt.
He said that the call became imperative in view of the absence of first class chieftaincy stool in Emohua local government.
Wowhor, noted that if some chieftaincy stools in Ikwerre land were elevated, it would go a long way in settling some chieftaincy related crises in the area.
He blamed past administrations in the state for such negligence, saying that was injustice of the highest order.
According to him, the Ikwerre nation has about 19 government recognised stools ranging from Ist class to -3rd, but noted that most of them were are now vacant due to death of former occupants.
He regretted that after the demise of most of the traditional rulers, some never had same recognition, which according to him, had robbed the Ikwerres their legitimate rights in the state.
He also called on the governor to look inwardly and grant autonomy to communities in Ikwerre that had attained such status.
While acknowledging the good administrative prowess of Governor Amaechi, he expressed optimism that he would give attention to the group’s request.
However, he called on those fighting against the elevation of chieftaincy stools in Ikwerre land to desist forthwith in the interest of peace and development of Ikwerre nation.
