Commissioner Harps On Vocational Education
The Rivers State
Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr Samuel Eyiba, has called on institutions and parents to pay more attention to vocational education in a bid to make young people employable.
The Commissioner stated this when members of the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) and National Directorate of Employment South South branch paid him a courtesy visit recently in his office in Port Harcourt.
Eyiba who addressed the organizations separately said that vocational education, would equip job seekers better for the challenges ahead in the labour market.
According to him, advanced nations now depend on vocational education, so as to keep with the head of technological development around the world.
The commissioner also noted that the state government had almost concluded plans to rehabilate all government owned craft centres in the nearest future.
The commissioner linked the issue of unemployable youths to lack of proper education and stressed the need for vocational education.
In his speech, NATE chairman, sought the commissions partnership in technology development in order to move the state forward.
He urged his guests as well as the general public to ensure that they contributed meaningfully to the development of vocational education.
The State Director of National Directorate of Employment, Chief Napolean Amachree and the chairman of NATE, Engr. Belief Gibson who spoke on behalf of their organisations assured the commissioner of their support.
