Council Disburses Interest-Free Loans To Traders
The Malumfashi Local
Government Council, of Katsina State, recently disbursed interest-free micro credit loans to 200 small scale traders.
Our correspondent reports that each of traders got N10, 000 to boost his or her business.
The beneficiaries included road-side tea sellers, barbers and vegetable sellers, among others.
Disbursing the loans in Malumfashi, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Council, Alhaji Mansur Rabi’u-Banki, said the initiative was designed to boost the beneficiaries’ businesses.
Rabi’u-Banki advised them not to consider the amount as “meagre”, but should use it to increase their capital.
He said the council had recognised the importance of small scale business owners as regards poverty alleviation.
According to him, more than 1, 900 persons have benefited from the micro credit scheme which has started 14 months ago.
Meanwhile, the chairman also launched the sales of subsidised grains at half market price to less the privileged families in the area.
Rabi’u-Banki said his administration had embarked on the sales of subsidised grains on monthly basis.
According to him, every month the council buys 300 bags of grains which it distributes to the 12 wards in the area.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Jafaru Majanlisa, thanked the council for the gesture, saying it would go a long way in easing hardship being experienced by the people.
Majalisa urged committee responsible for the disbursement of the loans and those selling the grains to be transparent in their activities.
