Monarch Wants Oil Coys To Float Empowerment Centres
The Obidaowei of Biseni Clan, Chief Lawson Obireke, has urged oil companies operating in the area to establish skill acquisition centres in the clan, as part of efforts to boost human capacity development among the youths.
He made the call recently during the commissioning of five internal link roads with drains, totaling 5.5 kilometers and Doctors/Nurses quarters in Biseni, Yenagoa local government area in Bayelsa State, built by the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) and its joint venture partners.
The Royal father remarked that if skills acquisition centres are built and youths engage themselves in any trade of their chioce, that it will go a long way in checking the menace of oil theft, pipeline vandalisation, illegal bunkering and other vices among youths.
He commended NAOC for initiating and commissioning numerous rural projects that have improved the lives of the people, especially the road network and health care delivery.
The representative of Bayelsa State Ministry of Environment, Ezekiel Adike, lauded Agip for complementing the state Government efforts towards the provision of rural infrastructure in the host communities, saying that the gesure should be reciprocated with peace and enabling environment for business to thrive.
NAOC General Manager, District, Massimo Insulla, represented by the Public Relation, Communication and Government Liaison Manager, Prince Nwachuku Obi, said that the various projects represent the willingness of the company to respond to the expressed needs of Biseni community as enshrined in the Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties.
He said that the projects would go a long way in facilitating mobility and the growth of the clan, as well as strengthen and sustain the existing cordial relationship between the company and Biseni.
Similarly, one kilometer road with drains was also commissioned in Ogbolomabiri, Nembe local government area, Bayelsa State recently by NAOC.
The community thanked Agip for the rural infrastructure and assured to maintain peace in the area.
