Anambra Revokes 200 Undeveloped Plots
The Anambra State Government has announced the revocation
of 200 plots of land in three layouts following the failure of owners to
develop them 15 years after allocation.
At a news conference, the state Commissioner for Lands,
Survey and Town Planning, Mr Okoli Akirika, in Awka, listed the affected areas
to include Abuja phase one, Agu-Awka and Odera layouts all in Awka.
He said the ministry had for some time been visiting
government reserved areas in the state to ascertain their level of development
many years after the allotment of the plots.
“It is morally wrong to have all these plots of land lying
fallow when an average Anambra citizen is desirous of having a plot to build a
house.
“Surprisingly, those who had the opportunity for 15 years
could not develop their property,’ he regretted.
According to him, the governor is under the law to address
this anomaly and that is exactly what we have done today.
“Fundamentally, the allotees were not the owners of the land.
All lands belong to government who made the allocations, as such, the allotees
should have kept their own part of the agreement.
“The state governor has consented to the revocation of over
200 plots of land at Agu-Awka, Odera and Abuja phase one layouts.
“The
requisite legal notice will be issued to the affected plots owners when the
process is properly and legally gazetted,” he emphasised.
Akirika
warned that the state government had given the Ikenga and Real Estates
allottees in Awka a grace of 30 days , running till December 31, to commence
development on their property or risk revocation.
He appealed to the public to be wary of their dealings with
land speculators in the affected revoked plots of land.
“In essence, those interested in buying and developing
government reserved lands are being invited to find out whether the property
with interest is actually free from encumbrance.
“We will not
entertain any plea, no matter how passionate as the revocation exercise was a
continuous process.
