Bonny Youth Demand Governing Council For Gas Polytechnic
The Bonny Youth Federation (BYF) has called for the
constitution of governing council for the Federal Gas Polytechnic, Bonny.
The youth body which said this at a press briefing Friday in
Port Harcourt, also called on the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)
to handover the custodianship of the completed facilities of the polytechnic to
the Bonny Kingdom Development Committee (BKDC).
President of the Federation, Mr Gift Furo Hart who read the
address at the briefing, regretted that years after the initiation of the
project, the polytechnic was yet to fully take-off.
Mr Hart said this was against the background that similar
projects initiated in Ekowe, Bayelsa State was receiving Federal Government
attention.
According to him, the issue of inaugurating a governing
council for the proposed institution should no longer be delayed.
“We demand full administrative and academic work to commence
if the Federal Government is sincere about this project,” he said.
The youths also requested the minister of education to
interface with her counterpart in the Ministry of Petroleum with a view to
harmonizing whatever processes that are remaining to fast-track the
commencement of the polytechnic.
“It is expedient to note that the youths are not only the
future of Nigeria, but also major stakeholders and useful resources in
nation-building, he said.
“Hence we are saying government should make effective the
Federal Gas Polytechnic for our youths to attain their full potentials”.
The group also deplored the government’s attitude towards
the completion of the Bodo/Bonny road, and urged for speedy action on the
project.
