Pandemonium Over Mystery Coffin In Eket
Residents of Marina Road of Eket in Akwa Ibom were on Monday thrown into a state of confusion following the discovery of a coffin from unknown source in the area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that hundred of residents in the neighbourhood raised the alarm on Monday morning on noticing the strange coffin near Solelatra Company Ltd.
The company is involved in the replacement of old oil pipeline in the area.
When our source visited the area, a large crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the strange coffin from a safe distance.
The coffin had an inscription, which reads, “The gods of this land are angry, give us our rights”.
The crowd, compelled a team of armed security men drafted to the area, to close the Marina Road to vehicular traffic as motorists were advised to make a turn.
The armed security men, comprising soldiers and policemen, who are attached to the company, removed the coffin and re-opened the road to traffic at about 11.30 a.m.
An official of the firm, who preferred anonymity, said that the firm had destroyed the coffin by burning it.
“We understand some unemployed youths are trying to use the coffin to arm-twist the company to give out jobs, but we have told them to be patient because the project we have does not require labour at this time. “The coffin has been burnt as we speak,” he said.
