Rotary Club Plans Skills Acquisition For Unemployed Youths
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North, District 9140, says it is on the verge of screening unemployed youths in Rivers state for computer training, tailoring, fish and snail farming.
The club president, Rotarian Emmanuel Ogbonda who said this during the club’s media day celebration in Port Harcourt, also said that, the affected trainees will also get a starter park and soft loans from the club.
Rotarian Ogbonda said that the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North since inception in 2010 has embarked on numerous programmes to improve the lives of the people.
According to him, the club has given micro finance loans to women provide reflective vests for the police, while borehole was also provided to Elelenwo secondary school.
Other programmes carried out by the club, according to him, include; provision of cancer kits of health centres in Elelenwo, Rumuobiakani and Woji and also sensitized the affected communities on the importance of immunization.
He said that the media day which is being observed internationally, is meant to showcase the activities of the club to the public.
The Rotary president also stressed the need for collective efforts to check the activities of Boko Haram in the country as the sect constitute a grave danger to the corporate existence of Nigeria.
In his lecture entitled: “selling Rotary: The media angle” the manager News DAAL Communication Port Harcourt, Mr. Sam Akpan said that the club stands to benefit if it sustains its partnership with the media.
Mr Akpan described Rotary club and the media as partners in progress, noting that time has come for the members of the club to seek ways of accommodating the media in its progrmames.
