Any Nigerian Greater Than Nigeria?
The Biblical injunction that describes the inequality between a servant and master is a vivid testimonial connotation that can also rationalise the relationship between the Nigeria nation and a Nigerian. In another context, Nigeria is like the earth that mothered every living creature. It is therefore agreed factually, to be older than every creature on it and cannot be measured up in terms of greatness with its occupants.
In the same vein, no Nigerian can be regarded as being greater and most important than Nigeria herself in every ramification, spiritually, physically and otherwise. No matter the status occupied, religious affiliation, creed, personality in the society and so on, no one is greater than the corporate entity called Nigeria. It is a natural phenomenon that people cannot be the same and on the same level at anytime, just like the fingers and faces can never be the same. This is just the truth.
This has become necessary, and of grave concern now that the country is on the verge of certain endemic scourge of high degree of insecurity (terrorism) high profile political quagmire and celebrated customized corruption, just to mention but a few. The hitherto beautiful country of Nigeria is now sitting on an upheaval keg of gun-powder which is like a time-bomb.
Meanwhile, there are perpetrators of these evil who are operating unmasked with fan-fare. They seem to bestride the narrow walls of the three tiers of government, the private and public sectors like a colossus – a sacrosanct demi-god that is unstoppable and above the law. We all know them but seem not to. God is the greatest and above all.
Let’s look at the number of souls cum properties we have lost to the nefarious activities of these goofs and goons called Boko Haram militants etc. Defenceless and innocent citizens, men, women and children are being slaughtered everyday like cow. In fact, it should be better for us to be engaged in a profound and defined civil war than this dastardly and cowardly act of genocide in style of guerilla warfare. But we all know those drumming for them. Are these people greater than Nigeria?
On the political scene, there are high levels of orchestrated manipulation, rigging and judicial game of robbing Peter to pay Paul without prejudice. We all know them. But are they greater than Nigeria?
The act of corruption is more or less a national anthem now that could be inscribed in our schools’ curriculum so that students should be familiar with its modus operandi even before being engaged in employment or leaving school. Very sad and funny! Every day millions and billions of naira are published in the electronic and print media as having been lost through corruption. Even as the identities of these culprits are made known, nothing has been done to them to serve as deterrent for others. Are they greater than Nigeria?
On page 5 of February 15-21-2012 edition of the National Network Newspaper,’ we read about the candid “confession of an ex-Boko Haram Juhadist.” The confession of “Sheik Sani Haliru, now Brother Paul Haliru after conversion to Christian faith is very astonishing, outrageous and intriguing. How can certain highly placed individuals instead of converting their stolen or acquired resources to allecviate the plight of the mases through employment opportunities and improvement in th nation’s economic development, indulge in the barbaric act of taking lives that they can not create?
For instance, in his answer to one of the questions, “apart from IBB, who are the other top sponsors of terrorism in this country.” Bro Paul Haliru answered and I quote, “they are many but IBB is the major financier. He introduced the suicide bombing that started when he killed Dele Giwa. I have the names of six traditional rulers and seven present and past governors as well as several top military and security officers who are co-sponsoring the so-called Boko Haram. That apart, I have documented evidence to prove General Mohammadu Buhari, Alhaji AbubakarAtiku, and other top politicians and traditional rulers are some of the people behind Boko-Haram”.
He also went further to say that “… General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida has more than 600 men and women Jihadists who are under his pay roll. They are scattered all over the country and he (IBB) can use them to destroy Nigeria.” In his final description of Nigeria, he said that “Nigeria is sitting under an Islamic barbaric bomb (IBB).”
God forbid! Now, with these true confessions, the questions are: Are these people greater than Nigeria? Are they above the law? Are we waiting for them to destroy and exterminate everybody from the surface of Nigeria for the next generation to act?
The question are enormous and endless. But there is no tuber of yam that is too big that cannot be roasted. Are Babangida, Atiku, Buhari and all those perpetrating these evil greater than Nigeria? Are those judges that collect ransom to pervert justice above Nigeria? What about corrupt leaders that stash our money in foreign banks, invest in foreign countries while we wallop in poverty and penury here in Nigeria, are they also greater than Nigeria? Instead of wasting resources through budget every year to a toothless bulldog that can only bark but not bite as Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other so-called anti-graft agencies, it is better to transfer such resources to power generation.
How long shall we continue to operate on the other side of natural justice where the innocent and blameless are found guilty while the guilty are set free, applauded, promoted and worshipped? Ken Saro-Wiwa, Adaka Boro, Moshood Abiola and many more living or death were innocent but maimed. The late Muammar Gadaffi was not greater than Libya, neither Adolf Hitler greater than the world and likewise Hosni Mubarak of Egypt of recent time. Even the almighty apartheid system of South Africa was not greater than the people of that nation.
Apparently, it is very disgusting, ambiguous and clumsy that the government cannot confront very seriously and boldly certain situations in this country. So, I make a clarion call on every good son and daughter of this country, no matter your belief and status, but with the fear of God and love for our nation, to rise up against these monsters who are the enemies of our God-given land as the days of oil – subsidy.
According to the word of Brutus (Shakespeare) “when Caesar became ambitious, I slained him. There is honour for his valiant and dagger for his ambition.” Behind every stubborn screw, there is a driver to bring it down. Let’s bring them down as they are dishonourable now.
God shall be with us and we shall win.

Balancing Religious Freedom and Community Rights
