Nigeria Eyes Cup Of Nations For Amputees
The Nigeria Amputee Football Federation (NAFF) over the weekend departed the country for Ghana to participate in the 3rd Africa Cup of Nations for Amputee Football (ANAF).
The event has been scheduled to run from November 17 to December 2.
The Tidesports reports that the tournament would hold simultaneously in Accra and Kumasi.
The event has a theme: “Let’s Be Passionate About Our Passion’’.
The tournament was earlier scheduled to begin on October 17 but was re-scheduled because the hosts, Ghana, said that facilities were not fully on ground.
The national team, comprising 15 players and five officials that left the country on Friday over the weekend, called on Nigerians to pray for them before they departed by road.
Jamiyu Hassan, a goalkeeper, told Tidesports that they had done all within their powers to ensure that the country emerged victorious at the end of the event.
“We need your prayers to backup our quest for the trophy.
“We are battle-ready and particularly, need Nigerians to pray. I am begging everybody out there to always pray for us so that we can win the Cup,’’ he said.
Nonso Iwuagwu, one of the players, said he was happy that they finally left for the tournament but, however, declared that going by road was not good enough, because of the distance.
“Thank God, we will not miss the competition but Ghana by road is a very long distance from the country Nigeria.
“I just hope we don’t have match immediately,’’ Iwuagwu added.
Gbenga Dosumu, National coach said, the players were in high spirit and that they were technically prepared to face any country’s team.
“The boys, I must confess are ready. They trained under sun and rain, even when they were not sure of going’’.

PH To Host 2026 NWFL Super Six
In a statement released by the league, the competition is scheduled to take place from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, with six clubs set to battle for the league title at the end of the 2025/26 season.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said the choice of Port Harcourt reflects the Rivers State Government’s continued support for women’s football and its successful hosting of the league’s Annual General Assembly last year.
The Super Six tournament will feature the top three teams from Group A and Group B of the regular season competing in a round-robin format, with each club playing five matches over nine days.
Qualified teams for the competition include defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and debutants Abia Angels.
The NWFL Premiership has produced four different winners in the last five editions, with Rivers Angels winning in 2021, Bayelsa Queens claiming the title in 2022 and 2025, Delta Queens triumphing in 2023, and Edo Queens emerging champions in 2024.
The league also urged participating clubs to comply with all competition regulations and directives ahead of the championship. The Super Six will determine Nigeria’s representative for the WAFU-B qualifiers for a place at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and ultimately the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
Teams are expected to arrive on Friday, June 5, when the draw ceremony and pre-match meeting will also take place. Matchdays are scheduled for June 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14, with rest days in between before the tournament concludes with the trophy presentation ceremony.
