The Permanent Secretary of the cabinet Bureau in the office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Ms Kadilo Brown, has enjoined the officials of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) to help in the enlightenment of the rural populace on the various programmes and policies of the state government.
She made the call when the officials of the Rivers State branch of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) paid her a courtesy visit in her office.
Ms Brown who was a former chairman of NAWOJ in the state, said lack of awareness is a major problem of the society hence the need for NAWOJ to contribute to societal growth by making people in the state aware of the state government’s free health and education programmes amongst others.
The permanent secretary who was also the Editor of The Tide on Sunday, One of the titles of The Tide Newspaper, also challenged women journalists to go beyond handling women-related issued as fashion in their columns and delve into discourse on developmental issues like their male counterparts.
She advised the newly elected officials of the association not to betray the confidence reposed in them by their members by embarking on programmes that would impact positively on their members and their society at large.
