RSG Plans Public Service Reforms
Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, has unveiled plans to transform the state public service for better service delivery.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr George Feyii recently at the inauguration of a 10-man committee to evolve measures in reforming the public service, Amaechi decried the rot in the system.
He stressed that the committee had the mandate to chart a fresh course in the re-enginering of the public service with the aim of making it more efficient and up to modern standards.
Governor Amaechi said that the reforms had become imperative to infuse best practices and make public service fit and competitive. The State Chief Executive while lamenting the decay and loss of values in the system lamented the backlog of benefits for retirees, saying, “ we should be able to operate a system whereby when somebody retires, he or she is able to access his or her benefits without moving from one table to the other.”
He noted that the Committee had two weeks to submit its reports as he expressed confidence in the calibre of those selected to chart a new framework towards the reforms.
The Committee is headed by former Permanent Secretary in the Civil Service, Mr Christopher Obinna, while the Permanent Secretary in the Cabinet Office of the SSG, Ms Kadilo Brown is to serve as the scribe.
Chairman of the body, Mr Obinna in his response thanked the Governor for the opportunity given to the members, observing that the reforms had become imperative in creating a new public service..
Mr Obinna assured that they would do their best in ensuring that the transformation agenda of the current administration was on track.
Other members of the Committee include the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), Chief Chris Oruge, Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT), Chief Moses Adiela and Pastor Christopher Briggs.
Others are Chuku Amejeta, Geroge Nweke, Gift Chima and Mr Alli Oruitemeka, Chairman of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB).

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
