Delta Takes Investory Of Property In Asaba
The Delta Government has begun to take stock of its property in Asaba preparatory to the implementation of the Land Information System (LIS).
Sir Patrick Ferife, the state Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, told newsmen on Thursday in Asaba that the exercise, which kicked off in July, would last for three months.
He explained that the stock-taking was a prelude to the introduction of the LIS, which is a system whereby homes and property will be registered with the Geographic Information Equipment (GIE) agency.
Ferife said that the enumeration of property with the LIS would enable the government to have accurate development statistics relating to landed property and assist it in town planning matters.
He said the lands ministry would engrave a tag with a “unique” code number on enumerated property to forestall double enumeration.
The commissioner added that the exercise would further enable the state to categorise land for easier identification and quicker acquisition of Certificates of Occupancy.
The use of the LIS and GIE would make monitoring of property by individuals, corporate organisations and government easier because of the application of an information technology database collection system.
