Check Schools Proliferation, NAPPS Tells RSG
The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Rivers State Chapter has called on the authorities of the State Ministry of Education to check the proliferation of private schools in the state.
President of NAPPS, Dr Peter Harrison made the call recently in a chat with newsmen short after the body marked the Children’s Day celebrations in Port Harcourt.
Dr. Harrison explained that the swelling number of private schools was worrisome and would affect standard of education if it persists.
The Rivers NAPPS president noted that on many occasions the body has alerted the ministry, since most of the schools are not registered members of the association or fully accredited.
He also decried the ebb in reading culture amongst students saying that the trend has given rise to examination malpractice and cultism in schools. He was however happy that with the current posture of government in the state, the menace can be checked.
On the future of Nigerian children, Dr Harrison said that the country was bright adding that creative children need to be guided properly in order to harness their talent.
His words, “children indeed are doing their best but they would need to be guided with proper attention given to them in the area of reading culture.”
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Chapter of NAPPS has called on the state government to extend its free school uniforms and books to pupils who are in private schools.
President of the body, Dr. Harrison believed that such gesture could reduce pressure on parents and guardians who are indigenes.
The NAPPS president hailed Governor Chibuike Amaechi for the recent upgradement of the state-owned College of Education to a University pointing out that the move could help in boosting the manpower in the educational sector.
