Porbeni Drums Support For Jonathan
A frontline elder statesman, Ambassador Festus Porbeni has called on all Nigerians to queue up and support the president in order to advance the course of developing the nation.
Ambassador Porbeni, who spoke during an interview with The Tide at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, said that now that elections were over, it behoves Nigerians, irrespective of religion, tribe or political leaning to embrace the result of the election and encourage somebody who has won.
He said: “election has come and gone and somebody has won, so everybody should now queue up and support the man who has won, let’s see how the country can move forward. We should embrace the result of the election and not to go anti-clock wise.”
Porbeni, who is also the President, Nigeria Rowing, Canoeing and Sailing Federation and grand patron, Navy Sailing club, urged members and principal officers of the 7th National Assembly to be more prudent and conscious in their financial expenditure.
He told them to focus more on how to make laws that would improve the lives of the people they represent, pointing out that the spending pattern of the out-going Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole was not encouraging.
On the issue of the 10 youth corps members who were killed in Bauchi, the retired Rear Admiral Porbeni said anyone found wanting should not be left unpunished and stressed the need to retain the NYSC scheme which he suggested should be modified to provide for adequate protection for members.
According to him, “I was part of the institution of the NYSC scheme and we saw it good for Nigeria. The aim will be defeated or killed if regional posting is adopted since the posting expose people to know places and their culture.”
