RSUST Lauds JAMB For Lifting Admission Ban
The authorities of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) Nkpolu, Port Harcourt have commended the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for lifting embargo on admission into the university.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Barineme Fakae who made the commendation in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, said that JAMB’s decision to lift admission embargo had vindicated the institution as a foremost centre of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the country.
According to him, the pioneering effort of the RSUST in ICT provided the opportunity for the examination body to develop an on-line posting of results, a feat which he said had gone a long way to check fraud in the system.
He also said that the institution had opened its web page in JAMB website for intending students to choose RSUST for the 2011/2012 academic year.
But the RSUST Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Felix Igwe, would not comment on the matter, saying that when JAMB placed the embargo, the union did not react.
JAMB had placed embargo on RSUST and seven other universities for the prolonged strike embarked upon by the lecturers of the eight universities.
Besides RSUST, JAMB also lifted embargo on the Lagos State University, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Abia State University, Ebonyi and Olubisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State and Evan Enweren University, Owerri and Anambra State University.
