Monarch Wants UNIUYO Move To Site
The Paramount Ruler of Uyo, Edidem Edem Akpan, has urged the Presidential Visitation Panel to the University of Uyo to recommend its movement to its permanent site.
The permanent site of the university is located on a large parcel of land on Nwaniba road within Uyo Capital City.
The traditional ruler made the appeal in Uyo on Thursday when the panel and the management team of the university paid him a courtesy visit.
He told the panel that the movement would not be possible without giving enough funds to the university.
Akpan, therefore, pleaded with the panel’s chairman to ensure that the Federal Government released the university’s take-off grant to make the movement possible.
The traditional ruler, who acknowledged the cordial relationship existing between his council and the university, maintained that the council’s solidarity with the institution would remain unshaken.
Akpan added that the council would continue to pray for the security, safety and success of the university and its community.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Panel, Alhaji Aliyu Sambo, said that the visit was to review what the university had achieved in the last five years.
According to him, the panel will make recommendations that will take care of all the challenges which the university was experiencing.
Sambo said that the panel visited the paramount ruler and his council as a mark of respect for the role they played in the allocation of the land to the university.
In her address, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Comfort Ekpo, thanked the traditional ruler for his support to her administration.
Ekpo, therefore, urged the royal father and his council to ensure that there was peace and harmony among the host communities to the institution.
She promised that her administration would continue to accord royal fathers their due respect in all aspects.
