PHCN’s New Billing System Underway
The Chief Executive Officer, Ikeja Mr Christian Akamnonu, PHCN Distribution Zone, says the zone will soon commence house to house re-classification and identification of its customers for accurate billing system.
Akamnonu told news men on Thursday in Lagos that only 60 per cent of PHCN customers paid accurate bills while the remaining 40 per cent did not.
He said that the PHCN management had resolved to find out why most customers were not paying accurate bills in the zone.
Akamnonu said that the zone had lost huge revenues, due to inadequate monitoring and proper accountability of customers who were supposed to pay their bills as and when due.
He urged customers to cooperate with PHCN staff found in their neighborhood on the re-assessment and re-classification of their billing system.
Akamnonu said that the zone had set up Customers Record and Debts Management (CRDM) Unit to visit customers’ houses and address cases of questionable estimates given them in the past.
He said that the customers’ re-classification exercise was aimed at ensuring that no customer was placed on wrong tariff.
Akamnonu said that the unit was in a position to give credibility to the billing system, urging customers to settle their genuine outstanding bills.
“A real time customer faults tracking and management programme has been developed and will be launched in the first quarter of 2011.”
“In spite of the Federal Government’s effort in ensuring effective power supply, some Nigerians still engaged in the act of vandalism,’’ he said.
Akamnonu said that the zone was currently faced with lots of challenges, including vandalism of PHCN equipment and customers’ refusal to settle their genuine electricity bills.
“Recent upsurge in the vandalism of sub-stations and over head line components is worrisome,” he said.
