Dep Gov Tasks Okpoama Chiefs On 2011 Elections
Traditional Rulers and Chiefs in Bayelsa State have been ordered to assist in mobilising their subjects towards the 2011 elections.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Hon. Werinipre Seibarugu gave the order while playing host to Okpoama Councils of Chiefs in Government House, Yenagoa.
Hon Seibarugu noted that election periods in Nigeria have always been trying and tempting for both politicians and the electorate, stressing the need for Bayelsans to be involved in all the electorate, stressing the need for Bayelsans to be involved in all the electoral processes by not only registering their names, but also coming out to vote for their candidates on election days.
The Deputy Governor assured the traditional rulers that the State Government will do everything possible to ensure hitch-free elections next year and called on them to pray for peace during the period.
According to him, the State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva is doing well as governor of the state and pledge to continue to co-operate with him on policies and programmes that will develop the state.
He assured the people of early take-off of the state College of Education sited in the area, and solicited for their supports in that direction and in execution of other social welfare projects earmarked for them
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Regent of Okpoama Kingdom, Chief Paul Briggs Omubo-Suobagha commended the leadership style of the deputy governor when he was the speaker of the State House of Assembly, saying the visit was to console him, over the death of his mother and thank him for his assistance during the burial of their former king late Justice Kesiye ST.Sagbe Okpo.
Chief Omubo-Suobagha, who was represented at the visit by Chief T.D. Ikoko Okparan, expressed the happiness of the clan over the elevation of Hon. Seibarugu to deputy governor.
