Group Pledges To Harness Gains Of Amnesty Programme
A group, Hope Across Niger Delta (HAND), has made out plans to improve on the gains of the amnesty progamme, so that its impact would not slip away from the minds of targeted Niger Delta Youths.
A statement signed by the coordinator of HAND, Mr. Yinimi Omorozi, says the programme is designed to mobilise the 20 million Niger Delta stakeholders to consolidate the gains of the programme.
“HAND is to promote post-amnesty confidence-building and strengthens democratic values to stimulate socio-economic growth and development in the region”, Omorozi said.
He continued that “HAND is a mass mobilization of the people across the Niger Delta to strengthen the relative peace in the region and promote post amnesty confidence-building to herald a new dawn of social harmony, peace and development in the Niger Delta”.
With Ambassador Festus Poubeni as Chairman of the Organising committee, Omorozi says HAND is a programme designed to be the collective voice and will of the people to put a permanent stop to the era of pain and hopelessness in the region. It is also to and rekindle the hopes and aspirations of the people for a socially stable and economically prosperous Niger Delta.
According to him, HAND is positioned in line with the Federal Government’s re-branding Nigeria project to attract International attention to the now peaceful Niger Delta region, and Nigeria as a society.
“The propgramme will herald the rebirth of social stability and economic growth and development now going through the Country”, added the Coordinator. He hinted that institutional partners expected to participate in the programme include the office of the Special Adviser on Niger Delta, Ministry of Information and Communications, NDDC, Ministry of Niger Delta, NNPC, State Governments, Oil and Gas companies, frontline activists and ex-militants in the region.
The programme is also expected to kick off with ‘Hope Relay Run and Rally’ President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to flag off the opening ceremony.
