HOS Cup: 2nd Round Matches To Begin Next Week
The second round matches of the on-going second edition of the Rivers State Civil Service Football competition, tagged Head of Service, HOS Cup, earlier shifted to this week have been rescheduled for next week as the state prepares to welcome President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday.
According to a statement signed by Mr Victor Mangibo, the Director of Administration, Ministry of Sport on behalf of the competitions committee chairman, Sir Mike Elechi, the matches will now be played from Monday, May 17 to Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Sharks FC Stadium.
The rescheduled of the matches, the statement explained was due to the rescheduled working visit of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the fact that the stadium would still serve as the venue for his reception.
In the reschedule fixtures, two matches would be played per day at 3.pm and 4.30pm.
On Monday, May 17, the Ministry of Education anmd Ministry of Transport will clash in the first match, while Ministry of Sport and their Culture and Tourism counterparts tango in the second game.
Ministry of Agriculture will square up with Ministry of Water Resources, and Ministry of Special Duties face office of the SSG on Tuesday at 3pm and 4.30pm, respectively.
Wednesday will see the Ministry of Health and Office of the Head of Service take to the field, while Ministry of Information and their Environment counterparts takes their turn afterwards.
On Thursday, the Government House team tackles Ministry of Justice to bring down curtains on the second round stage.
Winners and the best loser of the stage will qualify for the quarter final round billed to be decided on the 24th and 25th of this month.
Meanwhile, the organizers have called on football lovers and all civil servants to turn up enmasse to watch and cheer the teams as they battle for glory.

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
