Bayelsa Govt Condemns Invasion Of Corps Members’ Lodge
The Bayelsa government has condemned in strong terms the recent invasion of the youth corps members’ lodge at Abobiri in Yenagoa by some youths.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Corps Members Welfare, Mr Lawrence Ikati, condemned the action at a meeting with the Abobiri community in his office in Yenagoa on Friday.
The senior special assistant said some youths from the community allegedly invaded the corps members lodge and vandalised, molested and stole some property belonging to youth corps members.
A visibly angry Ikati said the state government was unhappy with the incident.
He said the action had embarrassed the government, adding that those arrested in connection with the matter would be prosecuted.
Ikati said the government would soon build a six foot perimeter fence to secure the corps members lodge at Abobiri.
According to him, this is the second time of vandalism of the corps members lodge in Abobiri community and warned that government will not condone a recurrence.
Meanwhile, the paramount ruler of Abobiri community, Chief Rafaeye Akube, has expressed sadness over the incident.
He said three suspects had been arrested by the police over the incident.
Akube pleaded with the youth corps members to return to the community and assured them that such incident would not be repeated.
Our correspondent learnt that youths from Abobiri area off the East-West road invaded the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) lodge last week.
