ONELGA Holds Peace Rally
The chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni (ONELGA) Local Government Area, Rivers State, caretaker committee, Barr. Andrew Ugwuorah has canvassed, in strong terms, the need for peaceful co-existence among the people of the area, particularly politicians and youths.
Barr. Ugwuorah made the call during a peace enlightenment programme, tagged “ONELGA For Peace 2010,” organised by the council in conjunction with the Niger Delta Youth Assembly (NDYA), ONELGA chapter.
The council boss who led other members of the caretaker committee, politicians and youths of the area on the peace rally remarked that there was no sacrifice made to achieve peace that was a waste.
He described the occasion as important to the people of ONELGA as it was targeted at consolidating the relative peace enshrined by their coming on board, observing that no development or progress could be made in an atmosphere of rancour and violence, warning those involved in violence to desist to avoid the wrath of the law. The chairman also lauded the Federal Government for the granting of amnesty to the Niger Delta Youths.
In his speech, chairman of the Niger Delta youth Assembly, ONELGA Chapter, Prince Eze Amirize said peace was the only way forward in evey human endeavour and requested the federal and state governments to provide jobs, roads and other social amenities for the area.
Lectures were delivered by eminent lawyers and other resource persons including, Barr. Aduche Wokocha and Paul Akposi as well as Dr. Azubuike Idu at the end of the rally which covered the length and breadth of the area and terminated at the council’s pavilion.
