Mrs Amaechi Urges Children To Emulate Christ
Wife of Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has called on Nigerian Children to emulate the good virtues of Christ in all their endeavour.
Mrs Amaechi stated this during the 2009 Children Xmas party at Government house Port Harcourt.
She said that emulating the good virtues of Christ was a foundational principle of good leadership.
The Governor’s wife told the children that Christmas was in commemoration of the birth of a Saviour and good leader, adding that the children’s party was meant to inculcate the virtues of Christ into the children. According to her, “we celebrate the birth of Christ because his birth brought us salvation, we organized children party at Christmas to teach our children the foundation for good leadership which the birth of Jesus Christ epitomize”.
The Rivers First Lady stated that the state government is poised to develop better institution in the health, education, empowerment among other sectors in the state with a view to providing the children with basic necessity of lives.
“The Government under the able leadership of Sir Rotimi Amaechi holds the children in high esteem, that’s why he has devoted so much resources to establish better institutions comparable to any where in the country and the world at large to cater for your well-being. You all will enjoy greater opportunities in education, health, power, empowerment among others.
Mrs Amaechi who is the founder of the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) said the NGO will soon commission first phase of its Model Nursery School at Eneka.
She advised the children to take their studies very seriously and urged them to be humble and shun acts capable of destroying their careers.
Highpoint of the event was the cutting of the Xmas cake and presentation of gifts to the children.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
