Mrs Amaechi Unfolds 2010 Empowerment Package For Women
Wife of Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi says she will explore agriculture and vocational skill acquisition as avenue for tackling poverty among women in the state next year.
Judith Amaechi stated this during a luncheon with wives of top government functionaries at Government House, Port Harcourt.
She said it is necessary for women to plan ahead of the new year to enable them prepare and focus their minds into the new year.
Mrs Amaechi stated that agriculture has been identified as a veritable source of empowerment, hence cooperative societies will be set up to encourage women in agriculture initiative.
According to her, “40 women groups will pioneer the women in agriculture programme to enable locals develop their agriculture potentials as well as have economic advantage over others, “We will develop agriculture potentials of our respective local government to enable our women enjoy economic advantage over others”.
Mrs Amaechi hinted of her intention to provide agricultural implements and tractors that will enable women transport their produce to places of commerce.
The governor’s wife also stated that she will initiate training in vocational skills in male dominated sector to complement the male contribution to the economy. Areas listed for the training are, Painting, Plumbing, Electrical, Electronic, among others.
Appraising the lady cabbies initiated to encourage women in commercial transportation, the governor’s wife added that the programme has recorded successes as evident in the testimony of women and adoption of the initiative by some states government.
She further stated that she will not rest in her determination to alleviate poverty in the state.

Technology Key to Nigeria’s Socio-Economic Development, Says Computer Scientist
Dr. Legborsi Emmanuel, former state Chairman of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), has emphasized that technology is the sure way for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
He made this assertion while speaking with newsmen at the sideline of 118th inaugural lecture series of Rivers State University (RSU) held in port Harcourt, wednesday.
He stressed that the lecture, which focused on emerging technology and its impact on the socio-economic development of the country, aligns with the NCS’s economic focus.
He highlighted the importance of building an economy driven by technology, citing the success of the Rivers State Smart Economy policy as an example.
The computer scientist emphasized the need for innovation and doing things differently, asserting that “technology is the only way out” for Nigeria’s development. He praised the lecturer, Professor Mathias Daniel, for exploring the applications of technology in various sectors, including agriculture, industry, transport, and socio-economics.
Dr. Emmanuel underscores the critical role technology plays in driving socio-economic growth and development in Nigeria by leveraging technology, the country can unlock new opportunities and address pressing challenges.
