Mrs Amaechi Charges Youths
Wife of Rivers State Governor Judith Amaechi has charged Nigerian Youths to be responsible to the society rather than indulging in societal vices.
Judith Amaechi stated this during the 2009 Youth Camping programme organized by the Rivers State Ministry of Youth Development at the NYSC Camp Nonwa near Port Harcourt.
The Rivers First Lady while recalling the nationalistic posture of the youths in the colonial era said the Nigerian Youths contributed so much during Nigeria’s quest for independence from the colonial masters.
“Today’s youths have failed in their role in developing the society neglecting it to other damaging ventures, Nigerian Youth, during the nation’s quest for nationhood played a significant role in the attainment of Independence.”
Mrs Amaechi stated that the act of negligence on the part of the youth and moral decadence in the country, necessitated the Rivers State Government to initiate youth oriented programme to enable them access opportunities to develop their full potentials adding that the government is poised and determined to develop youth capacity with a view to preparing them for leadership”.
The Rivers First Lady asserted that her NGO the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) will complement government efforts in empowering the youths through entrepreneurial and skills development, education, health and encouraged recreational activities among others.
She charged the youths to be good ambassadors and be responsible to the society and to emulate good virtues worthy of good leadership.
Earlier in his speech, the Commissioner for Youth Development Felix Nwaeke said the leadership programme for youths between ages 13-17 was packaged to re-oriented and redirect their energies to more productive venture as well as reposition them for leadership.
The Youths will be counseled in choice of career, leadership styles and dangers of drugs among others.
